BUSINESS DIRECTORY LISTINGS

Placement of a Listing within The Business Directory requires that you have either agreed to submit and maintain a web site listing to the "localguide.com.au" project or that the appropriate fee has been paid.

We'd much prefer individuals and businesses to take up the option of supplying suitable web sites for the "localguide" project. The reasons for this are
outlined here.

When placing YOUR listing in THE BUSINESS DIRECTORY you must first go into the category where your business listing is to appear. Once in the correct category, just click on
Add a Site located at the bottom of the page and you'll be presented with a submission screen.

IMPORTANT:
The following criteria must be considered before any web sites are submitted to the "localguide" project. Failure to meet these conditions is likely to see your submission/s rejected along with the associated Business Directory Listing/s.

a. Site/s submitted to the "LOCALGUIDE" project must be local in nature. This is by far the most important criteria. It can be a local community directory, local restaurant, accommodation, real estate, venue, tourist site, visitor site, car yard, pub, club, business site and the list goes on, just as long as it is internet based.
However, web site/s will also be accepted from much larger sites if the web address submitted actually has specific local content. For example, it might be a big specialised site dealing with accommodation which has a section devoted to a specific locality. As long as the specific web address that is submitted takes people directly to that section, then it will be acceptable (this would be classed as a
SECOND-LEVEL web address - explained in more detail further on).

Please note that business opportunity type listings will not be accepted for inclusion into the "local guide" project at this time. However, once the "local guide" site is activated, you'll certainly be welcomed to place such a listing into the appropriate category. At this stage, the focus is on building a database of web sites aimed at the wider community. Business opportunity type sites are best catered for at this stage within The Business Directory.

b. Adult sites are not accepted. In fact all submitted sites should be suitable for viewing by children. While this might seem like a very conservative approach, we believe that local content should be suitable for "ALL LOCALS" not just adults.

c. How many web sites need to be submitted and maintained to place a listing in The Business Directory? That depends on what type of web addresses you submit and how many listing in The Business Directory you wish place. For EACH listing you wish to place, the following submissions must take place. Therefore if you sign up for the placement of two (2) listings than you'll need to double the number of sites submitted based on the criteria below.

Web Address Submissions:

You will need to submit two (2) "top level" web addresses to place a listing in The Business Directory. An example of a top-level web address would be
www.localsite.com.au or www.localsiteexample.com

OR

You'll need to submit four (4) "second level" web addresses to place a listing in The Business Directory. An example of a second-level web address would be www.localsite1.com.au/localsite1.html or www.localsite1.com.au/sites/localsite1.html

What's the difference you might ask? It's simple,
top-level domain names tend to be much more stable. That is, they usually don't disappear overnight causing a "URL NOT FOUND" message.

Second-level domains however can change like the seasons. Here one day gone the next. The results being the irritating "URL NOT FOUND" message. From a maintenance point of view, top-level domains will require much less work to keep updated. In fact, if chosen wisely it is possible that no maintenance at all will be required on your behalf once the listing has been submitted. This ensures your Business Directory Listing remains intact long after you have submitted your web sites as part of the usage condition.

Other points to keep in mind is that web addresses submitted don't have end with .com.au. If it has local content for an Australian Town/Suburb/Place then it is acceptable.

And finally, you'll need the following information before submitting a site.

1. The main postcode covered by the site being submitted
2. The main town/suburb/place covered by the site being submitted.
3. An "optional" brief description outlining the sites content.

Both points 1 and 2 are required so that we can allocate "precisely" where the final web addresses should be placed.

We look forward to your submissions which should be
entered HERE.

RANKING ORDER BOOSTING

One additional feature worth noting regarding listings placed in The Business Directory is that they are sorted by Ranking Order (RO). Rankings range from 0 to 10 with 10 being the lowest rank. For example, if there are twenty listings in a category, when they are viewed by visitors the listings with the lowest (RO) will be listed first. It's easier to see this by actually visiting The Business Directory and making a note of the (RO) number and where the listing actually appears on the page. The advantages of this feature only becomes apparent once a category begins to fill with listings.

All submitted listings to The Business Directory are given a
default ranking of 10. To get a lower ranking and thus a higher position when listings are displayed, either a fee is payable or additional web sites can be submitted to the "localguide" project. Fees are payable on a yearly basis as outlined below. Alternatively, if additional web sites are submitted to the "localguide" project a lower ranking can be achieved as outlined below. The rankings are then maintained as long as the sites submitted to the "localguide" project remain viable. Therefore, if someone submits 5 additional TOP-LEVEL web addresses to the "localguide" project, their listing in the Business Directory will receive a Ranking of 5, thus putting them well ahead of the default which is 10. Alternatively, a Ranking of 5 can be achieved by submitting 10 SECOND-LEVEL web addresses to the "localguide" project. As long as all the "localguide" project submitted sites used to gain a better ranking remain active, the ranking will remain permanently with your listing in The Business Directory. The only other way to get a ranking of 5 is to pay a yearly fee of $50.

If you feel a better ranking has advantages then it's important you start collecting appropriate web addresses to achieve a better ranking, unless of course you wish to pay the appropriate yearly fee. As previously explained, TOP-LEVEL web addresses are far superior than SECOND-LEVEL web address simply because they tend to be permanent thus making them virtually maintenance free. Another important point to consider is that
appropriate TOP-LEVEL web addresses for use in the "localguide" project will become harder to locate as time progresses. I guess you could call this a "ground-floor-opportunity" although I must admit I detest this term simply because its been used for the wrong purpose many times before.

At this point, I'm sure you can see just how important we consider the "localguide" project is for building vital traffic. If we can build its content by way of appropriate web site listings, we will all benefit in the increased traffic that such a site has the potential to attract.

If you have any questions at all please drop us an
email. We are more than happy to provide any additional information you may require.
