Resource Centre
Below we have listed a number of sites which we feel have a great deal to offer anyone
considering starting a Web Site publishing business. This section will be refined
with time, but until we have enough feedback from site users it's the best option
available. While we have decided on using external sites, we must emphasise that
the forums at this site are critical in allowing us to understand your needs. If
you have any questions, suggestions or ideas please ensure you use them.
Free Web Space
The following two sites provide excellent examples of the free web space currently
on offer. There are hundreds of others and with time we will look at evaluating more.
However, at this early stage these sites provide a clearer understanding of what
resources you can access for free, and offer as part of your Web Site Publishing
business
Australian
American
For those of you who would like to look at other potential Free Web space providers,
the following site will provide all you need.
http://freewebspace.net/
Free Email Service
At this early stage, we'd suggest that both Yahoo
and Hotmail provide suitable email facilities. We do
anticipate setting up our own email service based around the Biz-Au
site, but for now either Yahoo or Hotmail will do.
Custom Web Addresses
To ensure that all small businesses have access to a stable, portable and professional
looking web address, we have set up a facility around the Biz-Au site.
This allows a web address such as http://www.website.com/users/smallbusiness/JoesShop.html
to become http://www.joesshop.biz-au.com or http://www.JoesShop.biz-au.com. Being
able to offer these shorter web addresses will enhance the services of your Web Site
Publishing Service.
Web Site Publishers
Database
If you'd like to make your Web Site Publishing services available to interested small
business owners, then you should be listed in this database.
However, you need to be mindful that if a small business owner uses this site to
search for someone to help with their web site needs, they are probably going to
want to see "your" site and possibly examples of other small business sites
which you have developed. Therefore, please be advised that you need to give this
option serious consideration before placing a listing for your services. We will
be actively monitoring this database to ensure a certain standard is maintained. You must have also registered with the Web Site Publishers Network. We don't want
to be providing outsiders with such information unless they are part of the network.
Web Site Quotes Wanted
To further assist small business owners in locating the services of a Web Site Publisher
who can help with the development of their web site, a special "Quotes Wanted" database has been set up. This allows a small
business owner to provide details of the work they would like undertaken. Those within
the Web Site Publishers network can look through these requests and follow-up on
those jobs which they feel comfortable with.
To further enhance this feature
from a Web Site Publishers point of view, we have also set up a subscription service.
When a small business owner places a request into the database, we will send details
of this listing to Web Site Publishers who have subscribed to the "Web Site
Quotes" subscription list. You can subscribe to this service simply by entering
your email address into the box located on the lower left hand corner of this page
- or any page for that matter.
However, you must have also
registered
with the Web Site Publishers Network before we will activate this subscription. Once
again, we don't want to be providing outsiders with such information unless they
are part of the network.
The Small Business
Network
To further assist small business owners in developing a web site, we have set up
"The
Small Business Network".
Through that site, we have provided information and resources to help them get started.
However, just because they have "ALL" the information does not necessarily
mean they will set up their own web site. In all probability, they'll seek out the
services of an individual who can do the work in a cost effective manner. That's
where the Web Site Publishers Network comes in. Rather than suggest that they pick
up the phone book and contact a web site design "EXPERT" we are pointing
them towards the Web Site Publishers Network. To maximise the effectiveness of this
procedure, we have introduced the Web Site Publishers Database and The Web Site Quote Request Database.
Sample Sites
An excellent way to establish content and design ideas for a site you are about to
start work on is by looking at what others have done. In the not too distant future,
we will set up a database containing sites which are considered great examples of
how a small business site should 'look and feel'. In the meantime, if you happen
to find a great small business web site which you feel is worthy of further investigation
by others, please feel free to send us
the URL (Web Address). They will be placed here for others to see.
