Stable, portable and professional looking web addresses
One cost most small businesses face when establishing a web presence is the registration of a domain name. While registering a domain name is not required, it can be one way of getting an easy to use name for marketing and promotional purposes. Unfortunately, as the internet continues to grow, securing an easy to remember domain name is becoming increasingly difficult. Not only that, but trying to remember some of these domain names is nearly impossible. Once a domain name is registered, the business owner is faced with an ongoing yearly fee. The cost varies depending on which TLD (Top Level Domain) system the name has been register under i.e .com.au or .com or .net or .nu and so on. In fact, there are lots of TLD's.

An alternative to registering a domain name is to use a sub domain service. For example, if a small business has web space at a particular site and their web address is http://www.website.com/users/smallbusiness/JoesShop.html they can use a sub domain service to shorten this web address into something which is more professional. For example if they use the
Biz-Au sub domain service, they could have http://www.joesshop.biz-au.com or http://www.JoesShop.biz-au.com (sub domains are not case sensitive). This provides a much more user friendly and professional looking web address that can be more effectively used on promotional materials and stationery etc. At this stage, there are a number of such sub domain services. However, as with other areas of the internet many of these businesses offer such a service by using either delay pages or pop-up pages which display banner advertising. Once again, while this might be acceptable to a private user, it doesn't look professional from a small businesses point of view.

Another problem with most of these sub domain services is the inappropriate domain names which they offer as part of their service. Many are just downright unsuitable for a small business to use. Of all the areas concerning web site publishing, this is one of the main areas where AAA Media Network will be offering an alternative sub domain service based around suitable business names which more closely reflect the needs of small businesses. While we would prefer to use a third party provider, we feel that the alternatives aren't suitable. On top of this, we also need to be confident in the reliability of such a service. If a sub domain service is out of action, so then are all the domain names associated with such a service. This would be totally unsatisfactory.

It's important to remember that these sub domains are totally portable. If someone moves their web pages to another site, they simply use a password to change the details of where their sub domain points. Their visitors and customers will never know there was a change. Their sub domain will continue to work as it always has. This means that stationery, advertising etc containing the sub domain web address will continue to be valid. It's interesting that some people never give this issue a second thought until they discover the horror or having to redo all their printed materials just to update their web address, not to mention losing the value of all the work they've done to promote their web address. This just isn't an issue when using a sub domain service such as that offer by the
Biz-Au.com site.
